Born in Chile, Gonzalo C. Garcia has long been based in Britain, yet his imaginative roots linger back home. His first novel, We Are the End (TLS, December 15, 2017), explored millennial apathy and emotional inadequacy through the figure of a hopeless but relatable games designer in contemporary Santiago.

In November 2025, Gonzalo C. Garcia launched his second novel, Telenovela. While it uses the same close third person to immerse us in each character’s consciousness and memories, this is a far more ambitious, unsettling book, set in the months leading up to the referendum of 1988 on whether General Pinochet should remain in power under resumed civilian rule.

Gonzalo C. Garcia was born in Santiago and spent his first years in Chile's Colchagua Valley region, before moving to Switzerland and eventually to the University of Kent, where he studied for a PhD under Scarlett Thomas. He currently teaches creative writing at the University of Warwick’s prestigious Warwick Writing Programme.
