Worcestershire County Council is proceeding with planned highway maintenance works on the A38 this Saturday, 14 February 2026, commencing at 8pm.
These works are essential maintenance interventions required to ensure the highway remains safe and serviceable, particularly in advance of National Highways’ forthcoming M5 closures and the associated diversion traffic that will use the A38.
As the Highway Authority, we have a statutory duty to maintain the highway in a safe condition for all users. Given the current condition of the carriageway from Oakalls (Slideslow) Island and Austin Road Island, it is necessary that these resurfacing and ironwork repairs are undertaken without delay.
While the A38 BREP works are currently operating within booked roadspace, these works must take precedence. The A38 works cannot be deferred and will not conflict with any planned BREP closures.
We will continue to coordinate with all parties as required to minimise disruption and to ensure the works are carried out safely and efficiently.
Please note: the work is weather dependent. If temperatures are too low, they may need to postpone.
