Mick Hurst, who is the founder and leads the delivery of the Battle of Evesham Festival re-enactments, has been shortlisted as a finalist in VisitEngland’s Tourism Superstar 2026 Awards.
The nomination recognises his dedication to celebrating one of Worcestershire’s most significant historical events while boosting the local visitor economy.
The event commemorates the 1265 Battle of Evesham, a defining moment in English medieval history. Developed over just 7 years, the Battle of Evesham Festival has become a firmly established fixture in Worcestershire’s events calendar, welcoming more than 50,000 visitors to the heart of Evesham each August.
Visit Worcestershire nominated Mick in recognition of his long-standing commitment to celebrating one of the county’s most significant historical moments and the positive impact the re-enactments have on local businesses.
Councillor Alan Amos, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Business and Skills at Worcestershire County Council, said: "I am delighted that Mick Hurst has been recognised nationally for his outstanding work with the Battle of Evesham re-enactments. Mick’s experience in heritage tourism has helped shape Worcestershire’s visitor offer, including supporting the launch of the Visit Historic Worcestershire initiative, which brings the county’s stories to life and encourages more visitors to explore the region.

The Tourism Superstar award is decided by a national public vote, with finalists competing during February and March. Voting closes at the end of English Tourism Week, which runs from 13 to 22 March 2026.
Voting details will be available on the Visit Worcestershire website and social media in the new year.
