Our Community Stories Project showcases the amazing community led initiatives, supported by our community wellbeing grants.
In our modern busy world, it can be easier to retreat into the comfort of our smartphones, smart TVs or gaming systems, but we know that is not smart and what many of us craves, and indeed fear is lost, is community.
The Worcestershire County Council Public Health Team see first hand the impact that community can have on mental health, physical health, reducing loneliness and boosting resilience and this is why they work with communities across Worcestershire to help turn their ideas into a reality.
The Community Stories Project showcased the amazing community led initiatives that were born from grit, determination, and a desire to care for and improve the lives of others – supported by our Public Health Community Wellbeing Grants.
On 22 October 2025 an event was held at Worcester City County Cricket Club to bring together community partners and residents featured in the stories alongside wider system partners to view the films and celebrate the brilliant grant funded community action that supports residents’ health and wellbeing.
From Woodrow to Warndon the community stories feature creative and impactful voices from groups offering homeless support, inclusive cycling, men’s walking and talking, exercise for the visually impaired, youth self-defence, women’s football, and support for children of veterans.
Dr Lisa McNally, Director of Public Health at Worcestershire County Council said: One of our key goals is creating a Healthy Worcestershire. We know that we cannot reach that goal alone. People want to feel empowered to create healthy changes within their communities, supported by their neighbours and friends. This is what the community wellbeing grant programme is all about giving individuals, charities, organisations, and community groups the opportunity to identify a need in their community and create meaningful change. I am so proud of what our communities have achieved and was delighted to honour them in our celebration event.”
