The Leader of Worcestershire County Council, Councillor Jo Monk, has appointed Councillor Nik Price as Cabinet Member for Strategic Delivery, Operations, Governance and Efficiency (Strategic DOGE).
This is a newly created Cabinet role designed to strengthen delivery, accelerate transformation and ensure the Council is run efficiently during a period of significant challenge and change.
The new portfolio brings together responsibility for strategic delivery, operational performance, governance, efficiency, and transformation. Focusing on how the Council works at its core, it aims to ensure that services are reliable, systems are modern, governance is strong and public money is used as effectively as possible for the benefit of Worcestershire residents.
Councillor Nik Price said: “Worcestershire County Council is facing a financial emergency, a situation we inherited and which we are dealing with. This role is about strengthening how the Council delivers day to day, modernising operations and driving efficiency so services work better for residents.
“I will be working across all Cabinet portfolios to support colleagues in ensuring our services and contracts deliver real value. My focus is making sure that going into Local Government Reorganisation, this council is stable, modern and efficiently run to provide a strong foundation for what comes next.”
Leader of the Council, Councillor Jo Monk, said: “Much of the last 6 months has been about dealing with the immediate financial emergency this Council faces. The new Cabinet role will support that process, but also strengthen the delivery of a reform agenda as we head towards Local Government Reorganisation. It reflects the scale of the challenge facing Worcestershire and the need for strong leadership focused on service delivery, governance and efficiency.
“This Council must be financially resilient and at the same time focused on outcomes. Our job is to give residents the services they need, while making sure that their money is spent as efficiently as possible. By driving improvement through transformation across the whole organisation, the Strategic DOGE role will help us do that.”
The creation of the role underlines the Council’s commitment to reform, accountability and continuous improvement, ensuring Worcestershire is served by an organisation focused on delivery, value for money and results during the transition to a new local government structure.
