Free travel for all veterans to launch in the new year

In a move to honour the county’s armed forces community, Worcestershire County Council has announced the launch of free bus travel for veterans and serving personnel.

The initiative, approved following a Notice of Motion at October’s Full Council, will allow armed forces personnel and veterans, to travel for free across the county’s commercial bus network starting early next year.

Home to more than 21,000 veterans and over 500 regular armed forces personnel, Worcestershire is proud to recognise the service and sacrifices.

Councillor Karl Perks, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “As Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, I see this as a meaningful way to recognise the service and sacrifice of Worcestershire’s armed forces community – they deserve nothing less. As we mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War, this initiative is a timely and heartfelt way for Worcestershire to show its gratitude and provide practical support through free bus travel.”

The Council will release further details in the new year.
