Libraries bring people together. Through stories, events and welcoming spaces, local libraries support people of all ages to discover, enjoy and share a love of reading.
In addition, libraries are one of the few places you can visit without any cost, as membership is FREE for everyone who lives in Worcestershire.
Never been to the library before? This is the perfect time to discover what’s waiting for you. Throughout 2026, Worcestershire County Council’s libraries will be going all in on reading, offering a wide programme of activities, including new book clubs, a range of author talks, clubs and activities for all ages. From everyday opportunities to read and relax to special campaigns and challenges, there will be something for everyone to enjoy all year round.
New for 2026: Children aged 7–12 (Key Stage 2) can visit the library and explore our Fantastic Fiction Finder Map.
This new resource helps young readers discover new authors and genres, with a specially designed bookmark to build confidence in choosing books they’ll love.
Councillor Ian Cresswell, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Environment and Communities at Worcestershire County Council, said: “The National Year of Reading 2026 is about helping everyone rediscover the joy of reading, and libraries are at the heart of this ambition. I urge everyone to visit their local library, take part in the activities on offer and make reading part of everyday life throughout the year.”
Storytime Week (2 to 8 February): Storytime Week will be celebrated in libraries from 2 to 8 February, shining a spotlight on the benefits of storytime sessions for young children and families. Storytimes take place all year round and support early language development, confidence, imagination and a lifelong love of reading.
As the year continues, libraries will offer even more opportunities to get involved, from seasonal events and author talks, and sessions at The Hive led by the University of Worcester’s team of academic experts to support budding authors.
These sit alongside national initiatives such as the Summer Reading Challenge, as well as regular reading groups and family activities.
