A new Skills Bootcamp and training facility have been launched in Worcestershire, to help adults who want to upskill, re-skill, or gain the skills needed to work in engineering and manufacturing.
Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses for adults aged 19 and over in Worcestershire who want to gain new skills for life or progress into higher-skilled employment. They are funded by the Department for Education and managed locally by Careers Worcestershire, part of Worcestershire County Council’s Skills & Employability service.
The new Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance Skills Bootcamp is being delivered by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Group Training Association (HWGTA), a long-established training provider for the engineering and manufacturing sector. The programme will be held at HWGTA’s enhanced engineering training facility on Mackenzie Way, recently expanded with support from Worcestershire County Council’s Curriculum Development Fund.
Nigel Morgan, Chief Executive of HWGTA, said, “We are proud to be able to offer this new Skills Bootcamp to Worcestershire, ensuring that local people and businesses benefit from high-quality technical education and workforce development opportunities. Our new expanded facility marks a significant step forward in our mission to equip learners and employers with the skills required for a rapidly evolving engineering sector.
With support from Worcestershire County Council, we have been able to further invest in cutting-edge facilities, upgraded workshops and modern training environments that meet current and emerging industry needs. This ensures that local talent can thrive and businesses have the skilled people they need.”
The upgraded facility increases workshop capacity and strengthens HWGTA’s ability to offer practical, industry-focused technical training for local people and employers.
Worcestershire County Councillor Alan Amos, Cabinet Member for Business and Skills, said, “I am delighted and excited that we have been able to support HWGTA as they expand their excellent training facilities. Skills Bootcamps are excellent short, focused training programmes that are designed to give people the practical skills that employers need and I seem them, just as I see apprenticeships, as pivotal in how we can equip Worcestershire people with the skills employers need. This expansion is directly providing residents with opportunities to upskill and re-skill through our excellent Skills Bootcamps programme.
Investing in people who want to gain new skills, enter work, or progress in their careers is essential for a strong local economy. This new Bootcamp gives residents the chance to build valuable technical abilities, and it ensures that employers can access the skilled workforce they need to grow.”
The Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance Skills Bootcamp gives learners hands-on experience in maintaining and repairing engineering equipment. Learners practise wiring and testing circuits, assembling simple control panels, identifying mechanical faults, fixing issues, and using workshop tools safely and accurately.
The programme is suitable for people moving into engineering roles, those wanting to discover a route into the industry, or employers looking to develop the skills of their workforce.
