Worcestershire hosts ‘Together at Christmas’ Community Carol Service, supported by The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales
On Sunday 7 December, Worcestershire joined fourteen other communities across the UK in hosting a ‘Together at Christmas’ Community Carol Service.
The event, supported by The Royal Foundation, is part of an annual initiative spearheaded by The Princess of Wales to recognise and thank the many people around the country who act with love in their communities, contributing to a more cohesive and connected society.
These local services are inspired by The Princess of Wales’ own Westminster Abbey service, which will be televised on Christmas Eve on ITV1 and ITVX.
Worcestershire’s Community Carol Service, hosted by Beatrice Grant, the County’s Lord-Lieutenant, was an afternoon to remember, held in the stunning All Saints Church in Evesham, beautifully adorned with festive community Christmas trees. This uplifting event brought together over 220 guests from local community and voluntary organisations to celebrate and honour those who have shown extraordinary kindness, compassion, and selfless commitment to supporting others.
Led by the Archdeacon of Worcester, the service featured music from the Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra, spellbinding performances from 22-year old Worcester-based Soprano soloist, Heini Hughes, and the voices of 40 members of the Harvington Singers, all combining to create a truly memorable occasion. Guests were also treated to thoughtful readings by representatives of local community groups, reflecting the spirit of unity and generosity that defines Worcestershire.
Amanda Berry CBE, CEO, The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, commented: “Our Royal Foundation Community Carol Services embody the true spirit of the festive season. This December marks the fourth year that The Royal Foundation has had the privilege of supporting these special community gatherings, shining a light on truly remarkable people right across the UK. From small towns to major cities, these wonderful and uplifting occasions bring people together to honour those who have made a lasting difference in their communities throughout the year.”
During her address at the conclusion of the service, the Lord-Lieutenant said: “Today’s Community Carol Service has been designed as a heartfelt thank you to the communities and organisations in and around Evesham. It is a celebration of the spirit, generosity and unwavering neighbourliness that make this part of Worcestershire such a special place.
"I also want to recognise the volunteers and organisations – those unsung heroes - who serve local communities. You are, in every sense, a genuine safety net – supporting those who are struggling, lifting up those who feel alone, and offering kindness and stability in moments when they are needed most. The impact you have is profound, and this afternoon we honour and thank you for it.”
