As we head into the colder months of the year, residents across the county who are eligible, can apply for support through the Household Support Fund.
Support through the fund, which is a UK Government Initiative, is available until the end of March next year through a range of different schemes.
In Worcestershire, Act on Energy deliver the Energy Support Scheme which provides assistance with the cost of household energy, energy bill debt, and new heating systems for residents on low incomes who are eligible, including pensioners.
Additional support with the costs of energy is available for those on low incomes living in a cold home with a cold-sensitive long-term health condition through the Warmth on Prescription scheme. Worcestershire residents will be able to see if they are eligible by contacting their GP surgery’s Social Prescribing Team.
One-off funding towards food and energy costs will also be available as cash vouchers for new pension credit recipients that haven’t yet received a payment.
Other pensioners, carers or people with a disability on low incomes will be able to access cash support through the Worcestershire Advice Network, led by Age UK Wyvern.
An additional top up voucher for low income households with high energy use medical devices is also available.
District councils also have a proportion of the funding and are supporting a range of other support measures in communities.
Supermarket vouchers will be issued to families with free school meal eligibility in school holidays through to the Easter holidays next year.
Councillor Ian Cresswell, Cabinet Member for Communities for Worcestershire County Council said: ‘The autumn and winter months can present a range of challenges for residents in Worcestershire, we are pleased to be able to continue to provide a range of support schemes for households that need some extra help with the cost of living, working with our district councils and voluntary sector delivery partners.’
