The works to upgrade the Windermere Drive zebra crossing to a push button crossing are due to start on 23 March. Small raised ‘cushions’ will also be installed to encourage motorists to drive carefully.
An initial one-way road closure will be in place, with traffic diverted via Goldsmith Road and Walnut Avenue.
Full evening closures will take place on 19 and 26 March and 3 May, from 5pm to 11pm, to complete the road surfacing and electrical work.
Pedestrian access will remain open throughout.
Councillor Owen Cleary, County Councillor for Warndon & Elbury Park, said: “The improvements to the crossing are very welcome. I’m grateful to the Highways team and the Cabinet Member for prioritising this vital upgrade for Warndon residents.”
The timetable may change depending on weather conditions, and signs on site will display the latest information.
The works are expected to be completed in early May, followed by a full safety audit before the upgraded crossing is brought into use.
