Women in STEM Week 2026

Celebrating the Worcestershire women who have contributed to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, then, now and tomorrow.

Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Week is a new themed week led by the Council and will be taking place from Monday 20 April to Friday 24 April 2026.

Led by our Skills and Employability Team, this week will highlight the women who have shaped the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics industries in Worcestershire, looking at not only those working within the County Council but the amazing businesses outside of it. We will recognise the pioneers who came before, the women who are working in STEM roles today, and the young people who will lead our STEM sectors into the future.

Did you know?

Only 30% of professionals working in STEM roles today are women (Office for National Statistics, July 2024 to June 2025). Here in Worcestershire, we want to help change this.

By sharing real stories from women in STEM, we can challenge stereotypes, open more career pathways, and inspire the next generation to explore these ever-growing fields.

Worcestershire women have played a huge part of the history of STEM including:

  • physicist Mary Taylor Slow, one of the first women to study radio waves and electromagnetism
  • Jessy Blackburn, British aviation pioneer and one of the first women to fly a British monoplane

And many more.

Looking ahead, we know Worcestershire is full of young talent, as proven by the success of programmes such as Primary STEM Challenge and Generation STEM from our Early Careers Worcestershire team.

Celebrating our successes, past and present, is an important step in helping us develop further and that’s exactly what our Women In STEM Week is all about.

Get involved

Do you have a STEM story to share? Want to shout out the success of a long-standing employee or the growing potential of a new recruit?

Tell us!

We want to hear a wide range of stories about the Women in STEM across Worcestershire and beyond. That's why we are inviting Worcestershire businesses and organisations to join us by sharing the stories of their own WiSTEM heroes. Taking part shows a commitment to a diverse workforce and highlights the important contribution that women make across the county’s STEM industries.

To share your business’ own stories, simply post on social media during Women in STEM Week 2026, and remember to include #WiSTEMWorcs26 so that we see it. You can also at us @careersworcs.
