Ecology Planning Advice

The National Planning Policy Framework (2012) sets out the national policies on the protection of biodiversity within the planning system.

Circular 06/05: Biodiversity and Geographical Conservation

This guide explains the rules in England about planning and protecting nature.

The goal of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) is to make sure we do not lose any wildlife or habitats when planning new developments. Where possible, we should aim to improve nature, not just keep it the same.

The Habitats Regulations 2010 say that local councils must think about these rules when they decide on planning applications. This includes protecting certain animals and plants.

The Ecology Service helps Worcestershire County Council with planning. They give advice so plans follow the law, avoid delays and extra costs, and prevent legal problems. They check if the ecological information in applications is good enough and explain why decisions were made if someone appeals.
