Loneliness campaigns and helpful national links

There are several national loneliness campaigns that aim to raise awareness of loneliness and reduce stigma.

The following resources help raise awareness of loneliness, and support you to make connections and improve your mental wellbeing.

The Marmalade Trust

The Marmalade Trust are an award-winning charity dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness and empowering people to make connections.

Each Year the Marmalade Trust host the annual Campaign ‘Loneliness Awareness Week’ which aims to raise awareness of loneliness and get people talking about it, across the UK and beyond. The Campaign to End Loneliness

The Campaign to End Loneliness is a network of national organisations and individuals working through community action, good practice, research and policy to tackle loneliness. For more information, visit:

Below are links to national advice and support:

  • Mind - offers practical tips to help manage feelings of loneliness, and other places you can go for support
  • Royal Voluntary Service and Age UK - offer social activities you can get involved with
  • British Red Cross - provide local support services, workshops and resources to help you deal with and overcome loneliness, you can call their free confidential support line on: 0808 196 3651 for advice on loneliness support
  • University of the Third Age (U3A) - learn something new at adult education classes
  • Re-engage - offer a call companion service for people over 75, call: 0800 716 54
  • The Chatty Café Scheme - look out for cafés who have signed up to this scheme, they have a Chatter & Natter table where customers can sit if they are happy to talk to other customers
  • The Silver Line - call for information, advice or just for a chat, 24 hours a day 7 days a week: 0800 470 80 90
  • Sense - the national disability charity supports people who are deafblind or who have complex disabilities to communicate
  • Samaritans - are here day or night, 365 days a year, you can call them free on: 116 123 or email: jo@samaritans.org
  • Calm Zone - offers a helpline for men in the UK, of any age, who are down or in crisis. Its open from 5:00pm to midnight every day, call: 0800 585 858

  • Childline - has lots of fantastic resources on making friends, bouncing back from bullying, being assertive, coping with anxiety and taking care of yourself, call: 0800 1111
  • The Mix - support for people under 25
  • Young Minds - can help you understand how you’re feeling and find ways to feel better
  • National Youth Partnership - useful resources to help young people begin to tackle loneliness
  • Building Connections - online service for young people up to the age of 19, the service aims to help young people develop tools that can help build confidence and manage loneliness
