Sensory audits of A and E (SEND co-production)

Sensory audits of A and E (SEND co-production)

The Acute Hospital Trust would like children and young people to audit their children’s ward.

Project start date: February 2026

Project end date: Ongoing project

About the project

The Acute Hospital Trust would like children and young people to audit their children’s ward and in the future other wards within their hospitals. They want children to assess the environment and give their suggestions.

Outputs

What we are doing and what we have done:

  • some members in the hospital have approached Voices United about this project
  • two young people are now booked in, in March to audit the A and E ward in Worcester

Outcomes

What this relates to:

  • I am listened to, understood and involved in decisions about my life
  • I am helped to be healthy in my mind and body
  • I feel safe and supported

Hospitals can be scary places for young people, therefore by having young people give suggestions about how the environment could be improved will hopefully lead to children feeling healthy in their mind and body as well as safe and supported.

Impact

The difference this makes to policies, services and workforce:

  • children’s environments will hopefully become more accessible
